Backups protect your world, configurations, and player progress. Here's everything you need to know about the backup system.
Automatic backups
Every server includes automatic daily backups with 7-day retention. This is included with all servers at no extra cost.
Automatic backups happen in the background without affecting your server's performance or kicking players.
Creating a manual backup
You can create backups anytime—especially useful before making changes:
- 1. Go to your server's Backups tab
- 2. Click Create Backup
- 3. Optionally add a name (e.g., "Before mod update")
- 4. Wait for the backup to complete (usually under a minute)
Manual backups don't count against your automatic backup limit and are kept until you delete them or reach storage limits.
Restoring from a backup
Need to roll back? Here's how:
- 1. Stop your server first
- 2. Go to the Backups tab
- 3. Find the backup you want to restore
- 4. Click the Restore button
- 5. Confirm the restore action
- 6. Start your server
Important
Restoring a backup replaces your current server files. Any progress since that backup was created will be lost. Consider creating a backup of the current state first if you might need it.
Downloading backups
You can download any backup to your computer:
- 1. Go to the Backups tab
- 2. Click the Download button on any backup
- 3. A .zip or .tar.gz file will download to your computer
Downloaded backups are useful for:
- - Keeping long-term archives of your world
- - Playing the world in single-player
- - Migrating to a different server or host
What's included in backups
Backups include everything needed to restore your server:
- World/map data
- Player data (inventories, progress, positions)
- Configuration files
- Installed mods and plugins
Best practices
- - Before updates: Always backup before changing game versions or updating mods
- - Before experiments: Backup before trying risky commands or config changes
- - Milestone backups: Download backups of major world achievements for permanent storage
- - Name your backups: Use descriptive names like "Pre-1.20-update" or "Finished-spawn"
